Special Recreation for Special People

PROGRAM SUPERVISOR

Nor-West Regional Special Services Program provides community-based therapeutic recreation programs, respite, and transportation services to people with differing abilities residing in the northwestern portion of Westchester County.  The Program Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising a variety of recreation programs, Tuesday through Saturday, 35 hours a week.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises, directly and on-site, Nor-West recreation programs, including regularly scheduled weekly programs, summer programs, school vacation programs, special events and trips, to ensure delivery of services, to monitor program-staffing levels and for risk management purposes;

 

Supervises part-time employees (i.e., activity leaders, recreation aides, drivers, lifeguards, counselors, volunteers) in the performance of their specified duties;

 

Ensures that agency policies, procedures, philosophies and program goals are adhered to and that programs are conducted in a safe, professional manner;

 

Evaluates recreation programs in terms of goals and the appropriateness of activities;

 

Completes all paperwork relative to program activities (i.e., attendance reporting, written feedback, evaluations, surveys, staff evaluations, etc.);

 

Coordinates and coaches Nor-West’s Special Olympic training and the participation in prospective Area 3 competitions.  This includes all paperwork, medicals, registrations, etc., and acts as the on-site supervisor for   weekly sports training and Saturday competition events;

 

Experience with computer programs (word/excel/outlook, etc.)

 

Other administrative work and job duties as required by the position

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

An Associate’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field and three (3) years of experience where the primary function was the supervision, development or planning of recreational activities and/or services for people with disabilities. Must have a valid and clear NYS Driver’s License.  Salary commensurate with experience and educational background.  Westchester County resident preferred.
