About our Community

Providing Quality Therapeutic Recreation Since 1973

Nor-West Regional Special Services is a social service organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities for over five decades. Established in 1973, Nor-West has been working in collaboration with four municipalities in Westchester County: Cortlandt, Peekskill, Ossining, and Yorktown, to enhance the quality of life for people with special needs.

At Nor-West, we understand the importance of providing engaging and meaningful activities that contribute to the overall well-being of our participants. We firmly believe that recreation is crucial in achieving happiness and fulfillment in life. Therefore, we have thoughtfully designed our programs to be both enjoyable and beneficial, offering opportunities for socialization, skill-building, and personal growth.

We invite you to join us and explore the many benefits that Nor-West has to offer. We are confident that our programs will help you or your loved one develop new skills, make new friends, and gain greater self-confidence.

We Proudly Represent These Municipalities:

Some of our Most Popular Programs

Bowling
Our bowling league for teenagers and adults is the most popular program we offer, with over 60 bowlers participating every week. To add more excitement, we have a red pin challenge every third week where bowlers can earn tickets to trade for great prizes. We celebrate both team and individual accomplishments at our annual award ceremony held every June.

Special Olympics
Nor-West participates in various sports, including volleyball, basketball, track and field, swimming, and floorball. Our training sessions are divided into two groups - skill level and team level. We believe that by emphasizing teamwork and the importance of individual skills, our athletes can reach their full potential and succeed in their chosen sports.
Afternoon Adventures
Our Afternoon Adventures program is designed to offer teens and young adults an exciting opportunity to explore new locations and engage in a variety of activities. With our weekly lineup of trips, there's never a dull moment. Make new friends while discovering the world around you!
...and So Much More!
Nor-West offers a variety of programs for people to enjoy all year round. Summer is particularly exciting with weekly outings, swimming, barbecues, mini-golf, movies, amusement parks, ball games, and many other activities. With such a diverse range of experiences available, there is something for everyone to enjoy and take pleasure in.

Participants' Rights and Responsibilities

At Nor-West, our primary focus is providing engaging and meaningful activities that contribute to the overall well-being of our participants. We firmly believe that recreation is crucial in achieving happiness and fulfillment in life. To that end, we thoughtfully design our programs to be both enjoyable and beneficial, offering opportunities for socialization, skill-building, and self-confidence.

Nor-West endeavors to provide quality programming for all participants. We emphasize safety above all else and we make adaptations wherever possible to accommodate our groups. We design our programs in the interest of delivering enjoyment and satisfaction to our participants. To the extent possible, Nor-West will provide each participant with choices about the services they receive.
